Opus One was founded as a joint venture between Robert Mondavi and the late Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Mouton-Rothschild. The first vintage was 1979, and along with Dominus this is considered as a Napa Valley "first growth". The fruit comes from the tightlyplanted vineyards that surround the winery, and is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. The wine has a very Bordelais "elevage" with 18 months in new French oak.
